Peter Bidwell Memorial and Brendan Campbell Memorial – Jul 25th/26th

This is a very important post for all riders, spectators and interested parties. Please read the following post carefully.

First and foremost, the entire club has worked extremely hard to ensure that these races can go ahead. There has been a huge amount of cancellations nationwide, but we have planned vigorously over the last few months to ensure that we can offer you this weekend of racing, for everyone, including youth cyclists.

Any rider, spectator or anyone wishing to attend the races, should complete this Self-Assessment Personal Screening Questionnaire

*IF YOU ANSWERED ‘YES’ TO ANY OF THESE QUESTIONS, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND THE EVENTS*

In addition, anyone attending is also required to read and adhere to the following guidelines, as laid out by Cycling Ireland. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in our elected Covid Officer asking you to leave the event: Guidelines for Participants

Peter Bidwell Memorial – Saturday, 25th July

Youth Events

PLEASE NOTE: The start time for the youth races is 3PM, not 10am as advertised on the ticket issued by EventMaster.

3:00 pm – U16 (4 laps – 26km)
3:03 pm – U14 (2 laps – 13km)
3:06 pm – U12 (1 lap – 6.5km)

ASSEMBLY: Riders are to make their own way to the assembly point at the finish line, which can be found at the checkered point on the route below. All riders are expected to be at the assembly point at 2:50 pm sharp. If you miss your group, that is not our problem and you will not be re-admitted to the race.

Senior Events

PLEASE NOTE: The start time for the senior event is 5:00 pm, not 10:00 am as advertised on the ticket issued by EventMaster.

5:00 pm – A1/2/3/4 (8 laps – 51km)

ASSEMBLY: Riders are to make their own way to the assembly point at Mullaghcrone Quarry, where the race will start from. It can be found at the green dot through the route link below.

There will be four groups, in order of category, and you will be assembled in that order at the quarry. All riders are expected to be at the assembly point at 4:50 pm sharp. If you miss your group, that is not our problem and you will not be re-admitted to the race.

RACE PARKING: All riders are asked to park at the Drogheda Retail Park and then ride to the assembly point. There is a link below which shows the directions from the car park to the race start. They are asked to immediately pass through the finish line and then ride to the car park once the race has concluded.

11:30 am – A1/A2 (6 laps – 84km)
11:33 am – A3/JUN (5 laps – 70km)

ASSEMBLY: Riders are to make their own way from the car parking facilities to the start line for assembly of riders. A4 riders are expected to be at the line for 9:45 am sharp and all other riders to be at the line for 11:15 am sharp for assembly. If you miss the start, that is your own fault and you will not be re-admitted into the race.

RACE PARKING: The car park for this race is located beside Bellewstown Racecourse. It is not in Bellewstown Racecourse and it is not the usual car park used for The Coombes Connor Memorial. You can find the correct car park/entrance by looking at the picture below. Below there is a link with directions from the car park to the race start (Don’t worry – it’s all downhill!)
Again, we are asking that as soon as your race is concluded, please pass through the line and ride directly to the car park.

Mark Mullen League – Updates

Round 1 of the League (Monday 13th July) will be comprise four laps of the circuit mapped out below. Those of you that have participated previously in our Coombes Connor open races will be familiar with some of the roads. The venue for subsequent rounds may be changed subject to ongoing review by our health and safety team.

The assembly area for the night will be the Coombes Connor start/ finish line which is just off the circuit on the R150 Duleek-Julianstown road, when heading east towards Julianstown. Race start time will be at 7:30 pm.

All riders that have Cycling Ireland race numbers i.e. those with full competitive licences are asked to wear those numbers and to use frame numbers as well. This will greatly assist us in being able to publish race results as quickly as possible without the need for any congregation when the race has finished.

We are also asking all riders to please bring along a mask or other face covering that they can wear while assembling at the start line, since proper social distancing may not be possible there. Masks can be put away in jersey pockets immediately prior to the start and neither these nor items such as gel wrappers nor any other litter should be discarded on or near the circuit.

There will be no physical sign-on at the race venue. Riders will use a virtual sign on system and details of this will be issued by email in the next day or two. Any rider that has not received an email notification about this before Sunday 12th July should contact entries@droghedawheelers.ie so that we can ensure we have your correct address.

Training Spin Protocol

Further to the announcement below, regarding Cycling Ireland’s Roadmap for Reopening, Drogheda Wheelers would like to advise all members who are organising training spins, whether for leisure or competitive groups, to take note of all the guidelines outlined in the Cyling Ireland Club Training Guidelines. The following points are particularly important:

  • Organisers of training sessions are required to use the Cycling Ireland Booking System for all club activities. This is a government requirement for contact tracing purposes.
  • Participants of training sessions should complete Self-Assessment Personal Screening Questionnaire.
  • Organisers should ensure that the number of participants must not exceed the maximum allowed by government regulations.
  • Participants should only attend the activity as close as practical to the start of any training and leave as soon as possible after the end of the session.
  • Participants should only handle their equipment (bikes, bidons, nutrition, towels etc) and not touch the equipment of others.
  • Participants should bring their own filled bidons (no use of water taps). No post-training social activities are to be conducted.
  • No participants and organisers are to attend or must leave immediately, a club activity if they have any illness or symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Participants and organisers must not attend a club activity if in the last 14 days they have been unwell or had close contact with a known or suspected case of COVID-19, even if mild.
