Weekend of Racing : Volunteers Needed!
Drogheda Wheelers’ weekend of racing will take place during the weekend April 16th/17th 2016. It features the Rás na n’Óg, Ireland’s premier stage race event for younger riders and the Peter Bidwell (April 16th) and Coombes Connor memorial races (April 17th) for senior riders. Over the years, our races have come to be regarded as among the safest and best organised on the calendar. In order to maintain that reputation (and given the increasing scrutiny that road racing is subject to – particularly in our area), we’d like to increase our stewarding presence throughout the weekend. The club would appreciate assistance from anyone who may be available to help out during the weekend (particularly on the Sunday). Experience isn’t essential – those of you who haven’t stewarded before will work alongside our more experienced stewards. If you’re able to lend a hand, then please contact Gerry @086 8192205, email: gercampbell1@hotmail.com
Club Meeting
Our next Club Meeting will take place on Thursday, 10th March at 8 p.m. in The Thatch Bar, Donore Road.
Boyne GP
This year’s Boyne GP will take place on 13th March.
Sign on will be open from 9.00 am in Ryan’s Pub Gormalough (6kms from Slane on the R163 Kells Rd).
As the circuit is only 12kms long it is necessary to have staggered times for race starts. This is to facilitate the staging of an A2 only race as part of the programme. The largest fields are expected in the A3 and A4 races so there will be a large field and smaller field race on the circuit at the same time.
Race Programme
10.30 A2 race 7 x laps 84km
10.33 A4 race 5 x laps 60km
12.45 A1 race 8x laps 96km
12.48 A3/Jun race 6 x laps 72km

Club Committee Meeting
Our next club committee meeting will take place on Thursday February 25th at 8 p.m. in the Thatch Bar. The agenda will include :
- preparations for our forthcoming racing weekend
- racing plans including possible participation at A3 and/or A4 level in Kanturk 3 day event in May
- feedback from our leisure section open night
Please contact Gerry with any further items for discussion.
Attention Leisure Riders
At our recent committee meeting, the club identified meeting the needs of our leisure riders as one of our priorities. While the club has a lengthy racing tradition and a growing presence at racing events throughout the year, we’re conscious of the fact that the majority of our members are leisure riders and we’re keen to ensure that they derive maximum benefit from being part of our club.
Over the last year or so, we’ve increased the frequency of our leisure spins. We’ve also introduced a number of initiatives that are open to all our members such as:
- Bike maintenance workshops
- Turbo training sessions
- Coaching sessions with qualified coach Antony Moran
- Social nights out
We’d like to raise awareness of these activities especially among the leisure riders. Moreover, we’d like feedback from our leisure riders on any needs that aren’t being addressed or any new ideas they might have. With that in mind, the club has arranged a meeting in the Thatch Bar at 8 p.m. Monday 15th February. We’d urge all our leisure members to come along and share their thoughts on what the club can do for them. We look forward to seeing you there.
